Your First Agent

When you claim your Solo Identity, Solo automatically creates your first agent: the Inbox Manager. This guide explains what this agent does and how to start using it.

What is an Agent?

An agent is an AI-powered teammate that:

  • Understands context from emails, tasks, and conversations
  • Communicates on your behalf
  • Handles routine work automatically
  • Asks for your input when needed (Human-in-the-Loop)

Think of agents as digital staff members who never sleep, never forget, and always follow your instructions.

Your First Agent: Inbox Manager

The Inbox Manager is automatically created and active by default when you claim your Solo Identity. This agent:

  • Manages your email: Reads, categorizes, and responds to emails
  • Handles all inbound email communications actively: Processes all emails arriving at your Solo Identity
  • Creates tasks: Turns emails into actionable tasks
  • Routes messages: Sends important messages to the right place
  • Maintains context: Remembers conversations and relationships

Note: If you don't want the Inbox Manager to automatically handle your inbound emails, you can disable or delete it in the Team area of the platform.

How It Works

  1. Emails arrive at yourname@solomail.io
  2. Inbox Manager analyzes the email content, sender, and context
  3. Agent decides what to do:
    • Reply automatically (if confident)
    • Create a task for you
    • Escalate to you for review (Human-in-the-Loop)
  4. You stay in control — review and approve before important actions

Viewing Your Agent

To see your Inbox Manager:

  1. Go to Team in the sidebar
  2. You'll see your Inbox Manager listed
  3. Click on it to view details and configure it

Configuring Your Agent

You can customize your Inbox Manager:

Working Patterns

  • Working Hours: Define when the agent is active
  • Response Times: Set SLAs for first response and follow-ups

Human-in-the-Loop (HITL)

  • Confidence Threshold: Escalate if confidence is below X%
  • Intent Triggers: Always escalate for legal, billing disputes, etc.
  • Approval Mode: Hold for approval vs. send unless declined

See Configuring Agents for complete details.

Adding More Agents

You can add more agents to handle different types of work:

  1. Go to Team → Click "Add Agent"
  2. Choose an agent type:
    • Inbox Manager: Email management
    • Assistant: General help and tasks
    • Chief of Staff: High-level coordination
    • Custom: Create your own agent type
  3. Configure the agent (see Adding Agents)

What Your Agent Can Do

Your Inbox Manager can:

  • Read and understand emails
  • Categorize messages (inquiry, support, sales, etc.)
  • Draft replies for your review
  • Create tasks from actionable emails
  • Route messages to appropriate agents or team members
  • Maintain context across conversations
  • Learn from your feedback and corrections

Agent Limitations

Agents are powerful but have limits:

  • They need guidance: Configure them properly for best results
  • They escalate when uncertain: Human-in-the-Loop ensures quality
  • They follow your rules: Set policies and guardrails
  • They respect your limits: Token usage and execution limits apply

Best Practices

Start Simple

  • Begin with default settings
  • Let the agent learn from your interactions
  • Adjust configuration as you see what works

Set Clear Boundaries

  • Use HITL settings to control when agents act
  • Define escalation rules for sensitive topics
  • Set approval requirements for important actions

Monitor and Adjust

  • Review agent actions regularly
  • Provide feedback when agents make mistakes
  • Refine configuration based on results

Use Multiple Agents

  • Different agents for different purposes
  • Specialized agents for specific tasks
  • Agents that work together as a team
